Our eggs are shipped every week to every corner of Australia. From remote places in WA, to the Northern Territory, to SA, QLD, NSW, Victoria, Canberra, and even Tasmania. We typically hand over our carefully prepared egg parcels to Australia Post for their express service on Mondays and Tuesdays. So, what is the statistics of arrival time and condition of eggs upon arrival?

We post 5-14 egg parcels every week:

* 40% of our parcels arrive on Wednesday.
* 50% of our parcels arrive on Thursday.
* 8% of our parcels arrive on Friday.
* Less than 2% of our parcels arrive on Monday the following week.

The time of arrival depends on many factors, including the actual destination, the time of year, whether there’s any public holidays on those days, and some factors we are not aware of and which are not “fixed” in the sense that are more postie-specific.

The condition of the eggs upon arrival is very much dependant on how the individual posties handled them AND where they have been left to sit if it’s during the hot summer months. In less than 5% of our parcels we have had feedback that one or two eggs arrived cracked. In most cases, the eggs arrive intact. Having said that, anyone who has experience with posted eggs will know that travelling can affect the eggs in one or more ways: from getting completely “scrambled” to having collapsed or somewhat compromised air sacs, posted eggs are not the same as eggs you personally collect. It must be mentioned however, that if the eggs are of quality, if you have a good incubator and you know what to do with them, the possibility of getting a decent hatch rate is pretty good. It’s definitely worth giving it a try when you’re well prepared for them.

Here at Agia Skepi, we incubate posted eggs from our favourite fellow breeders very often and our hatch rates are usually good. So, it is possible! Moreover and most importantly, we receive regular feedback from all of you who incubate our posted eggs, and it’s pretty good! Often our posted eggs hatch successfully even in incubators that are not top quality, and we are very pleased to hear this!
