We would like to provide some information here about our policies in regards to fertile eggs. We just had a conversation with an otherwise lovely man who was demanding that we either guarantee 100% hatch rate in his incubator or if this doesn’t happen, we give him a refund or more eggs at no charge.
Although in a fairy tail this would sound really nice, in reality it’s neither feasible nor fair to us. As a responsible breeder, all we can do is keep checking the fertility of our eggs and the hatching rate in our incubators, and share this with all potential customers in great honesty and transparency. But from the moment the fertile eggs leave our premises, we have no control over how they are treated or how they are incubated. This is also the case for posted eggs, however we have had a few (thankfully very few) cases when posted eggs were so badly mistreated during transportation that arrived with a few of them being broken. In such cases and although it was not our doing and it was completely beyond our control, we have always posted a new lot of eggs for free to the great delight of our customer, but also of ourselves as we don’t want anyone to be disappointed.
However, with fertile eggs that are collected from us, it would be completely unfair to us to offer free eggs if the hatch rate is not good because it wasn’t us who hatched them. There are a lot of incubators in the market and many of them are not great examples of good incubators, although they are often used by a lot of people due to their affordability. A fertilised egg may not develop at all if the conditions are not right or development may cease at some point during incubation, again for the same reason. That is why we always provide incubation advice when asked and we highly recommend you buy chicks instead of eggs if you don’t want to take the risk of a bad hatch rate for reasons beyond our control.
